Your New Identity in Christ

The world says you are valued by what you’ve accomplished (works), by what you own (possessions), what you’ve done (accomplishments), or how you look (appearance)… But this is not the real you.

The Real You

When you meet Jesus for the first time, your eyes and ears open to the truth. When you realize you have been living the wrong way, and turn to Jesus, your spirit is supernaturally awakened, and you are immediately transferred from the world’s broken, dysfunctional system to the Kingdom of the Creator.

The Bible says, “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13-14).

No longer does your evil nature have to rule your life. Now, by the power of the Holy Spirit living inside you, you can walk in a way that honors God. Your sinful past no longer dictates your righteous future. When you place your faith in Jesus Christ, you become a citizen of heaven and a holy, adopted child of God.

Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Jesus prayed to the Father that he would “sanctify them in the truth of His word” (John 17:17). He said the word (the Bible) is truth and that when he ascends to heaven, he will send the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth to guide believers (John 16:13, John 14:16-17).

Knowing what God, our Heavenly Father says about you, is instrumental in knowing your real identity, and the Bible is God’s word given to us so we can be confident in our true identity. Take time to study what the Father says about you. Replace the lies from this world and the Devil with truth from God, your heavenly creator.

In Christ you are secure

The Apostle Paul says: “I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38).

The Bible says: “In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons [and daughters] through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” (Ephesians 1:4-10).

In Christ you are significant

The Bible says: “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.” (1 Corinthians 2:12-13)

You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2: 9-10)

In Christ you are set apart

“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one Spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel.” (Philippians 1:27)

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13-16)
